Rodopou
village is one of the most picturesque villages of Kissamos prefecture in Chania. It lies on a long cape, 25 kms away from the
city of Chania, Cape Spatha or as it is
also known Cape of Peace and Friendship. The ancient city of Diktyna, dedicated
to the Gretan goddess Diktyna, and the remote outstanding of natural beauty
pebbly beach of Menies are only 10 kms away.
Sightseeing in the village of Rodopou. In our
days, Rodopou village has about 500 inhabitants. It has a primary school which
was founded during Turkish occupation period in 1800s. Today the school is
located in a stone, imposing but plain building with wonderful gardens, which
was built in 1925.
The village has got two impressive Byzantine churches dedicated to Saint
Georgios and Saint Antonios.. The construction of the second church was based
on the designs of the renown architect Ionnis Sirihas .
However, what attracts the attention of the visitor is the main square
of the village with the imposing monument dedicated to the brave men who were
killed or executed during the German Occupation in 1941-1945.
The village also has four traditional cafeneios(cafes), a bakery that makes fresh bread daily, a
small mini market where you can buy food ,fruit,drinks. The village is also
famous for its agricultural products. It produces pure thyme honey, olive oil,
wine and the traditional cretan snaps, tsikoudia.
The nearest beach in Ravdouhas is located at a distance of 3 kms, while
you may also visit the pebbly beaches
of kolimbari(5kms), Menies (10kms) and
the sandy beach of Afrata(5km), all with transparent clear blue waters. Also,
in Kolimbari there are banks, a big super market and many traditional local
tavernas that serve fresh fish and sea food.
If you prefer the mountains, there are also many interesting trails to follow. In
a short distance from Rodopou, about 3 kms, are the small villages of Aspra
Nera and Astratigos with many old houses churches of great importance. A lot of
travellers prefer to walk on the nearby mountains of Cape Spatha where they
collect Gretan herbs such as thyme, oregano, malotira, fliskouni, diktamo,
mantzourana.
It would be an omission not to visit the old
monastery of Saint John the Baptist
(Rigologos). The
monastery is in the middle of a green valley, Gionas, in an uninhabited area
with lovely scenery, about 10 kms away from the village of Rodopou towards the
direction of Menies beach, in cape Spatha. A very interesting celebration
(panigiri) is held there on saint’s name
day in August. Every year on August 28th
, on the Eve of Saint John’s day in the location of Gionas, evening prayer is
realised in an old chapel. It is noteworthy to say that in the presence of many
priests, group baptisms take place as well as a night ceremony. The attendance
of the pilgrims start early in the morning until the sunrise of the next day.
Along with the ceremonies, there is also a traditional feast with Cretan music.
Visitors can enjoy the traditional delicious dishes in the outdoor tavernas.
On August 29th, the football club of Rodopou organises a big
celebration at the main square of the village. The good wine, home made dishes
and live Cretan orchestras by famous Cretan artists promise visitors an
enjoyable and unforgettable night.
However, Kissamos, Chania and our Crete are not
limited here. Maybe all these are just a small, good start. Going around the area you will come across hospitable cafes and tavernas
with traditional Cretan cuisine.
No matter
what you choose to do or visit, the only
thing certain is that you will be delighted with all your senses. We wish its

Η Villa
Μένιες βρίσκεται στο Ροδωπού, ένα από τα
ωραιότερα Χωριά της Επαρχίας Κισάμου και του νομού Χανίων. Βρίσκεται στο
κέντρο του Ακρωτηρίου Σπάθα, που σήμερα ονομάζεται Ροδωπιανό Ακρωτήρι και Ακρωτήρι Ειρήνης και
Φιλίας. Το χωριό αυτό κτίστηκε στην περιοχή της αρχαίας Δίκτυννας.

Ροδωπού.
Το χωριό Ροδωπού είχε περί τους 1000 κατοίκους. Σήμερα οι κάτοικοι του είναι
περίπου 500. Έχει ωραιότατο Κοινοτικό Κατάστημα στο υπόγειο του οποίου στεγάζεται
το Πνευματικό Κέντρο Ροδωπού.
Έχει και ωραιότατο Δημοτικό
Σχολείο το οποίο λειτουργούσε από την εποχή της Τουρκοκρατίας. Το Σχολείο
στεγάζεται σήμερα σε κτίριο το οποίο κτίσθηκε το 1925 . Κτίριο πετρόκτιστο, με
λιτή γραμμή, χωρίς ιδιαίτερα διακοσμητικά στοιχεία, κτίριο επιβλητικό.
Στο κέντρο του
χωριού υπάρχουν δύο ωραιότατες Βυζαντινές Εκκλησίες του Αγίου Γεωργίου και του
Αγίου Αντωνίου. Η δεύτερη Εκκλησία οικοδομήθηκε με σχέδια του περίφημου
Αρχιτέκτονα Ιωάννη Συρίχα και με
καθοδήγηση του Καθηγητού Αρχιτεκτονικής Αναστάσιου Ορλάνδου.
Εκείνο που καταπλήσσει τον επισκέπτη του Ροδωπού είναι η κεντρική
μεγάλη Πλατεία του, η οποία έχει διαμορφωθεί με Μελέτη της διασήμου
Αρχιτέκτονος Μηχανικού Αιμιλίας Κλάδου –
Μπλέτσα.
Το χωριό διαθέτει 4 παραδοσιακά καφενεία, μία
ταβέρνα με ντόπιες λιχουδιές, φούρνο , ένα μικρό μπακάλικο από το οποίο μπορεί
να προμηθευτεί κανείς τα απαραίτητα είδη διατροφής. Επίσης στο Ροδωπού
παράγεται γνήσιο θυμαρίσιο μέλι, λάδι, καλό κρασί και τσικουδιά.
Η πιο κοντινή παραλία βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 3 χιλιομέτρων στο
Ραβδούχα .Η πλησιέστερη κωμόπολη, στα 5 χιλιόμετρα, είναι το παραθαλάσσιο Κολυμπάρι με το φημισμένο μοναστήρι
της Γωνιάς, όπου μπορεί να βρει κανείς
τράπεζα, super market, και αρκετές
ταβέρνες με φρέσκο ψάρι. Επίσης, η παραλία των Αφράτων, σε απόσταση επίσης 5
χιλιομέτρων, φημίζεται για τα πεντακάθαρα νερά της.
Αν προτιμάτε βουνό οι διαδρομές που
μπορείτε να ακολουθήσετε είναι επίσης πολλές και ενδιαφέρουσες. Σε απόσταση 3
χιλιομέτρων βρίσκονται τα μικρά χωριά
Άσπρα Νερά και Αστράτηγος με παλιά
σπίτια και εκκλησίες . Πολλοί προτιμούν να περπατήσουν στα γύρω βουνά του
Ακρωτηρίου ή να φτάσουν μέχρι το παλιό μοναστήρι του Γκιώνα. Επίσης, στο
ακρωτήρι μπορεί να βρει και να μαζέψει κάποιος ονομαστά κρητικά βότανα όπως η
μαλοτήρα, το θυμάρι, η φασκομηλιά , το φλισκούνι, η μαντζουράνα και η ρίγανη.

She finden Villa
Menies in Rodopou, ein der schonschten Dorfer aus der Provinz Kissamos
und Chania. Dieses Dorf ist gebaut in der Gegend von alte Diktynna und liegt
zentriert auf den Kap Spatha wer heut zu tage genannt wird Kap Rodopou und Kap
Frieden und Freundschaft.
Ortsgeschichte: Im Lageort von Villa Menies, gab es wahrend der Romischezeit der alle
wichtigste Anbetensort wo Kreta Gottin Diktynna verehrt worden war. Ihr Name
ist verbundet einerseits mit Berg Dikty, und anderseits (mythologisch) mit das
Fischernetz (dihty). Dieser religiose Ort konnte man nur barfuss betreten und
war bewacht von Hunde wegen der grosse Menge an wertvolle Gegenstande. Gottin
Diktynna war verehrt meistens im WestKreta im bekannte Stadte wie Lissos,
Polyrrinea und Falaserna und war sogar abgebildet in alte Munzen aus diesen
Stadte. Aber ihre Hauptanbetenslage war der diktynnische Tempel im Ostseite von
Kap Spatha.
Gottin Diktyna
war vergleichbar fur die damalige Zeit mit dem Jagd Gottin Artemis aus die 12
olympische Gotter.
Der englische
Wanderer Pococke, der in Kreta angekommen war mitten des 18 Jahrhunderts, hatte
der diktynnische Tempel besucht und sah grosse Gebaude die noch gut erhalten
waren und sogar eine davon gemacht aus Deckelfullsteine, sah aus wie ein
Tempel. Es ist auch berichtet dass Fischer fanden ein Statue aus weiβe Marmor und weil die dachten dass es konnte Gold befinden inner des
Statuen, die brachen es und selbst Pococke nahm ein Fuβ wo der Sandale zu erkennen war.
Diese Ort
behielt sein religiose Nutz auch spater in Christliche Zeit und and der selber
Stelle war der Kirche von Heilige Georg gebaut im 9Jahrhundert wo viele Monche
freiwillig in Isolation verbracht haben. Aber weil die oft dort angegriffen
worden waren von Piraten, die zogen um im Kloster Gonia.
Herumwandern im
Rodopou: Die Bevolkerungsdichte war um 1000 Bewohner aber heute
ist rund um 500. Es gibt ein wunderschone Burgermeistershop und auf dessen
Untergeschoss ist das Unterhaltungszentrum. Es gibt ein schone Grundschule, die
vollfunktionsfahig war seit der Zeit der Turkische Besatzung und wer spater um
1925 umgebaut worden war zum ein imposante, schlichte Steingebaude.
Im Mitten des
Dorfes gibt is zwei prachtige Byzantische Kirchen von Heilige Georg und von
Heilige Antonios. Die Architektur des zweiten Kirche beruht sich auf die
Entwurf des bekannten Architekt Ionnis Zyrihas mit Unterstutzung von der
Architekturprofessor Anastasios Orlandos.
Sie finden im
Dorf ein Vielfalt aus traditionelle Kaffeehauser,einem Restaurant mit
traditionellen Spezialitaten ,einer Backerei, ein Lebensmittelladen wo man sich
auch die notigste besorgen kann und dazu im Dorf kann man auch Naturprodukte
kaufen, sowie Thymianhonig, Olivenol, gutes Wein und Tsikoudia.
Die nachste
Strand ist nur 3 km enfernt im Ravdouha und die nachste kleine
Stadt 5 km weit weg, der heiβt Kolymbari ist gebaut
der Meer entlang. Dort konnen Sie der beruhmte Kloster Gonia besuchen und sie
finden auch Supermarkte, Bank und viele Taverne mit frische Fisch. Dazu in der
Nahe von 5 km liegt der Strand Afrata,die bekannt ist fur ihre Crystalklareswasser.
Wenn Sie Berg bevorzugen, die Moglichkeiten sind
viele und interessante. Im Distanz von 3 km, gibt es die kleine Dorfer, Weiβe Wassern und Astratigos, mit alte Hauser und Kirchen. Vielen mogen ein
Wanderung rund um die nachste Bergen unternehmen und bis zum Kloster Giona
gehen wo man ein Menge von Bekannte Krauter sammeln kann wie Malotira, Oregano,
Thymian, Salbei, Majoran usw.
Verpassen Sie
nicht die Gelegenheit das allte Kloster von
Heilige Ioannis der Baptist zu besuchen. Dieses Kloster, Gionas, ruht sich
mitten ein grune Tal, in eine Bewohnerlosesort mit wundevolles Landschaft nur
10 km entfernt von Rodopou richtung Strand Menies auf Kap Spatha. Ein sehr
interessantes Feier (Panigiri) findet statt dort jedes Jahr und ist gewidmet zu
dem Heilige Ioannis, gibt eine Heiligemesse fur Seiner Ehre und viele Kinder
werden auf die Zeremonie getauft. Dort kommen auch Pilgern am morgens und die
bleiben bis der Sonnenaufgang am nachste Tag. Das ganze wird begleitet mit
traditionelle Kretamusik sowie leckeres Essen angeboten beim offentliche
Taverne.
Am 29 August
der Fuβballklub von Rodopou organisiert ein groβes Fest in
Hauptplatz von Dorf Rodopou. Das gute Wein, die hausgemachte Gerichte und die
live Orchestra garantieren die Gaste ein unvergissliche Abend.
Allerdings der
Spaβ in Kissamos, Chania und in unser Krete, endet nicht hier, sondern das ist
